5th Street Ace Hardware Hosts 1st Annual Ready Your Wheels Day In honor of National Bike Month and in preparation for Bike to Work Week, local organizations offer area cyclists free bike lights, helmets, repairs and safety advice.
YOU MUST BRING YOUR BICYLE TO GET FREE ITEMS
To help area cyclists prepare for Bike to Work Week (May 17-21), 5th Street Ace Hardware is hosting its first annual Ready Your Wheels Day on Saturday, May 15 from 12-4 pm. The event will feature a bike light giveaway – Planet Bike’s Blinky Safety Set ($19.99 value) – donated by the Convention Center Community Association (CCCA), bike helmets supplied by the Metropolitan Police Department First District and the store’s regularly scheduled Downtown Bike Clinic with in-house bike fix-it guru Ally, who adjusts and repairs bikes while educating her customers on maintenance.
Representatives from MPD First District, the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA), and The Bike House, a community-based bicycle repair coop, will be at the store to hand out the accessories and talk to cyclists about bike safety, cycling for kids and families, and the health benefits and low cost of getting around the city on a bike.
The bike lights, helmets and clinic are free on a first-come/first-serve basis. Supplies are limited, so folks are encouraged to stop by early.
Ready Your Wheels Day is a joint community effort with 5th Street Ace, CCCA , MPD First District, Mt. Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District and Mt. Vernon Square Neighborhood Association.
